A surefire way to stand out is a well-designed resume that highlights the specifics of what they are looking for in an employee. Here are some quick tips on how to create a resume that gets you into the YES pile.

A WELL WRITTEN RESUME WILL RESULT IN:

  • Applying for fewer jobs
  • Receiving more offers
  • Hearing back from hiring managers or HR a lot quicker rather than not at all
  • Give you a competitive advantage over other candidates
  • 10-20% salary increase – because you can leverage your specific and highlighted skills

RESUMES MUST BE ALL OF THIS:

1. BE TAILORED TO THE JOB YOU ARE APPLYING FOR

Hiring managers won’t try and see if you are a fit. You need to show you are a fit. Include information that the hiring manager wants to see.  LinkedIn is where you tell your WHOLE story. The resume is your hook.

2. LOOK GOOD – CLEAN, ORGANIZED, AND MODERN

Use a template. Hiring managers want to look at good-looking resumes. So, they can find what they need easily. You need to make your resume look good – so they want to look at it. This doesn’t mean graphics and pictures but it does mean correct spelling and easy to read.

3. SHOW QUALIFIED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

It’s not JUST about your responsibilities. What you did + how you did it + results = accomplishment bullet points to put on your resume.

4. BE ON ONE PAGE

One page is the best way to get a hiring manager to quickly see you have the right experience. If you have 10 plus years of experience, two pages are fine but NO more than 2 pages.

Font Size: 9-10 font / Margin Size: 1 Inch

5. BE CONSISTENT

If you add a period at the end of each sentence, do it on ALL of them. Consistency communicates quality and gets you in the YES pile.

6. BE FREE OF GRAMMATICAL AND SPELLING ERRORS
